HR Certification Study Groups

Would you like an opportunity to join other chapter members in gaining a better understanding of human resources?  You can have that opportunity through participation in the SHRM Learning System Program offered by Metro Milwaukee SHRM.  Human Resource Certification is a symbol of professional achievement.  This program provides a review of the six major areas of the human resources field; Strategic Management, Workforce Panning and Employment, Human Resource Development, Total Rewards, Employee & Labor Relations, and Risk Management.  This program is designed to aid you in your preparation for certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).  The Winter 2010 certification testing window is December 1, 2010 through January 31, 2011.

The SHRM Learning System Program provides comprehensive, step-by-step instructions on each of the six major areas mentioned above.  There will be a facilitator available to guide the study group.  Participants will receive a workbook/reading materials and interactive CD for all covered topics.  The program will begin on Wednesday, August 11, 2010.  The group will meet for two & one half-hours intervals (6:00 – 8:30 p.m.) every Wednesday night at SEEK Careers/Staffing, 1160 Opportunity Drive, Grafton.

Unable to make this study group?  Information on a January 2011 study group will be available soon.  For more program details, call Debbie Fedel, CSP, PHR at 262.377.8888 or Roselle Rogers at 414.278.0700.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

For the Winter 2010 testing window, to earn either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation, candidates must have two (2) years of HR exempt-level experience.  The PHR examination focuses more on the technical/operations aspects of HR, whereas the SPHR examination focuses more on the strategic/policy issues of HR.

It is strongly recommended that candidates attempting the PHR exam have two to six years of HR exempt-level experience.  Likewise, it is strongly recommended that candidates attempting the SPHR examination have six plus years of HR exempt-level experience.

The Winter 2010 certification testing window is the last testing opportunity before new 2011 eligibility requirements take effect.  Please visit hrci.org for more details on exam requirements.
