This is an excellent opportunity for a Director of Organizational Development (40 hours/week) at our Jackson Street Administration Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  

JOB SUMMARY / DESCRIPTION:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Director of Organizational Development leads the work aimed at the organization’s commitment to being a great place to work for all. They play a central role in promoting and amplifying the positive culture of the agency. They develop and implement programs that exemplify and celebrate the diverse perspectives represented in the organization.  

The role is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and presentation of training and development programs for all employees. They will assess agency-wide developmental needs and implement ongoing training initiatives. They will drive programs to educate, enhance performance and facilitate professional development and continuous learning of team members.  

They will be responsible for building and managing a team of organizational development staff. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Active leadership in PPWI’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work with the goal of transforming PPWI into a multi-cultural, anti-racist and inclusive organization. 
  • Build and develop credibility and on-going relationships with staff at all levels to create and sustain a strong, consistent, and cohesive culture at Planned Parenthood. Foster the agency’s values and create a positive work environment. 
  • Partners with leaders across the organization to ensure successful integration across the all departments.  
  • Develops and leverages effective change management strategies to support implementation of initiatives with a focus on inclusivity. 
  • Centering on equity, develop and implement agency-wide advancement and leadership training programs to support staff professional development and internal mobility.   
  • Develop a training program focused on management with the intent of deepening their management skills, broadening their opportunities to move in the agency and actively supporting leadership succession planning. 
  • Develop and implement succession planning program for managerial roles. 
  • Focused development of underrepresented groups on the leadership team. 
  • Lead the agency’s Planned Parenthood Experience program (PPX) to improve both staff and patient experience in conjunction with other PPWI departments. Includes but not limited to existing initiatives: 
  • Biennial employee engagement surveys and related improvement plans  
  • Team wellness 
  • All-staff convenings 
  • Employee-to-employee recognition program 
  • New employee orientation  
  • Onboarding in partnership with position managers  
  • Lead, Growing Teams Together, a Planned Parenthood branded approach to supporting and troubleshooting team dynamics  
  • Develop and steward rewards and recognition program 
  • Coordinate and lead the internal employee incident response team 
  • Provide one-on-one leadership coaching as needed. 
  • Administer the agency’s Center for Affiliate Learning (CAL) to ensure staff are compliant with mandated trainings. 
  • Develop opportunities to grow and model training programs outside of PPWI for other organizations with an equity and inclusion lens. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Has demonstrated expertise in training and development.  Knows how to work collaboratively to develop and execute practical training systems that help achieve mission/business goals.  

Skilled in group facilitation and training methods. 

  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives that speak to different learning modalities. 
  • Ability to develop tools/approaches to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs that help achieve business goals. 
  • Demonstrated leadership in maintaining positive employee relations. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff in the agency and volunteers, including ability to communicate agency policies and decisions effectively.  
  • Ability to use various forms/vehicles of sending written communication to reach a variety of audiences. 
  • Ability to use PC and widely-used software packages, e.g. Microsoft Office, and has the ability to learn new software packages as necessary. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

A bachelor’s degree in education, business administration or liberal arts required, master’s degree preferred in Organizational Development or Training and Development.  Minimum of five-seven years' organizational development, training, or teaching with at least two years of experience in a corporate, health care, nonprofit or business setting.  An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered. Must have demonstrated supervisory experience. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.   

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  The position is predominantly sedentary requiring the ability to sit, bend, stand and walk.  May require occasional stooping, reaching, stair-climbing and repetitive motions of the hands and wrists related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard.  Rarely requires kneeling, pushing/pulling and repetitive motions of the feet.  

Physical demands of the position necessitate hearing, talking, handling and grasping regularly.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds. Specific vision conditions include close vision reading.  Requires the ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax, copy machine and calculator. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

The position is generally performed in an office environment and involves frequent interruptions.  The noise level is generally low to quiet.  The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodations, however, may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform said essential functions.  

Occasional evening and/or weekend hours may be necessary.  

This position requires occasional travel statewide.  Must have reliable transportation.
