JOB SUMMARY / DESCRIPTION:

JOB SUMMARY:  The HR Generalist will be a member of the Human Resources team, reporting to the Human Resources Director. The person in this role will be an integral part of the team, helping to promote a positive culture, developing creative ways to reach and attract candidates, answer employee questions in a timely manner, and assist in driving employee retention and engagement. They will work on projects and initiatives to further develop services provided within the HR team and provide excellent service to internal and external customers. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Generalist: 

    • Provides personnel policy and procedure guidance to employees and management.
    • Responds to human resources-related inquiries.
    • Tracks and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, PCI training, etc.
    • Monitors absenteeism and documentation requirements for hourly staff
    • Assists HR Director in preparing required Federal Contractor reports/programs (AA program, EEO-1 reporting documents, etc.)
    • Oversees coordination of special events that support company morale.
    • Verifies employment of team members and assists with follow up on unemployment cases
    • Administers new employee on-boarding and orientation.
    • Provides and assists in providing organizational trainings to employees
    • Maintains employee personnel records.
    • Conducts new employee interviews and exit interviews and recommends corrective action if necessary.
    • Assists with employee relations issues.
    • Creates and distributes internal communications regarding status changes, benefits, or company policies. 

Recruitment: 

    • Partners with hiring managers on recruitment and leads the creation of an effective sourcing strategy for each position; guides hiring managers and candidates through the recruiting process.
    • Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites. Provides organization information and opportunities and builds relationships.
    • Coordinates and participates in job fairs, conferences, and other recruiting activities.
    • Performs background checks, employment verifications, and reference checks, and clearance status of potential candidates using company provided tools. 

Other: 

    • Participates in special projects as assigned
    • Assists in the research and implementation of a variety of HR initiatives and solutions to achieve organizational goals
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required.  Will consider relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
    • At least two years of human resource work experience required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
    • Displays a service attitude to build relationships and genuine care for others
    • Displays a willingness to self-develop, receptive, offer solutions, exhibits sound and accurate judgement based on facts
    • Experience working with in a Union environment preferred
    • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred 

 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

    • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
    • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

 

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

    • Light to moderate noise levels
    • Moderate to low light levels
    • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time. This position will involve night and weekend work.
