The Metro Milwaukee Society of Human Resource Management's Guiding Principles are our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) for every MMSHRM member, volunteer, and event guest.

At MMSHRM, we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community that reflects and uplifts the rich diversity of our region. We believe that advancing equity and inclusion is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic priority that strengthens our workplaces, our profession, and the greater Milwaukee community.

We strive to provide an inclusive space for all professionals to bring their authentic selves and create an environment of belonging where professionals of all backgrounds feel welcomed, heard, and valued. This includes – but is not limited to – race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability status, socioeconomic background, religion, and professional experience.

Our chapter is actively working to use a DEI lens across all that we do – our programming, leadership, membership, and partnerships. We are committed to:

  • Representation: Expanding and diversifying our membership and leadership to reflect the community we serve.

  • Education & Dialogue: Offering meaningful, learning opportunities that build cultural competence and address bias in the workplace and the HR field.

  • Access & Advocacy: Promoting equitable access to opportunities and resources for underrepresented HR professionals and supporting inclusive practices within our member organizations.

We believe that as an integral part of advancing and supporting our professionals, it is our responsibility to provide programming focused on diversity of thought and providing a safe space for professionals to grow in their individual DEI journey. As an organization, we understand we are also on this journey and will continuously educate ourselves. As a board, we have committed to these guiding principles.

We support our members in better understanding and being inclusive of the diverse communities in which we live and work. We seek to work with diverse organizations and individuals, and give back to, and invest in, underrepresented communities.

We understand that equality does not mean equity; that diversity does not equal inclusion. We own our responsibility to ensure DEI is embedded within everything we do. We will foster a sense of belonging and empowerment during all events and programs.

We recognize that this work is ongoing and evolving. Through continued learning, honest reflection, and intentional action, MMSHRM aims to be a catalyst for meaningful change within our profession and beyond.

Concerns at an MMSHRM event related to discrimination, harassment, racism, or hate of any kind can be reported confidentially to MMSHRM’s DEI Board Director or any of the Executive Team members via our website. This includes behavior based on race, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with discretion.
